(Coffee Read) Becoming Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
What does that even mean? Which are you in Dance? (or whatever you are passionate about?)/ April Events
Hello Dancers,
Hope you are excellent. (In the P.S. I have three April Events I am doing))
I was listening to a Strength podcast and heard an interesting definition of what it means to be beginner, intermediate, or advanced. You may already know this, but it went like this…
Beginner’s learn the rules, Intermediate follow the rules, and Advanced can make up their own rules.
I thought that was a pretty good definition. I will use it myself.
In conversation about that definition over the weekend, some wide angles came to light. Some things to think about as your learning progresses to all 3 levels.
***Learn the “rules” for sure, but don’t get stone fixed in what the “rules” are.
My joke is that I don’t know if I have made more money teaching, or spent more money taking private lessons. Of course each teacher has different “rules.”
Be open to changing your mind as to what the “rules” are. Keep learning new “rules.”
***You might call the intermediate stage being a craftsman. Enjoy being a craftsman. I think of myself as a craftsman and love it. There is always room to improve the “rules” you believe worthy to follow, and you can get a lot of deep enjoyment from striving to higher skill levels. (Bruce Lee’s 10,000 kicks.)
***Congratulations! You worked your butt off and made it to Advanced. You did the 10,000 hours. Enjoy making up your own “rules!”
But keep in mind the first 2 points.
Maintain your Shoshin (from my Japanese post earlier this year)
And your Kaizen.
In dance or whatever you are passionate about, maintain and juggle the beginners, intermediate, and advanced mindset simultaneously.
Cheers,
Happy Dancing,
Garry
