(Clip)Why Does Sweet G Dance?
Hall of the Above this coming Sunday / What are Reasons for people dancing?
Hello Dancers,
Hope you’re soaking up some rays.
This Sunday is the Hall of the Above Salsa Party in Petaluma. Please talk about this party with your friends and strangers, and hope to see you there…
Why do people dance?
I know there is not 1 answer.
I have my standard short answer to this question, but i’ll leave that for a future newsletter perhaps.
I am interested in understanding why people dance. I wanted to collect some data. Let me know why you dance in an email if you’d like to.
I wanted to share a clip of me dancing with my daughter Eugenia. (the name Eugenia was too hard for my english speaking dad to say, so we started calling her Genie. I shortened that to “G” or “G-girl.”.
Then I started calling her “Sweet G.”
We went to a Swing concert by The Alpha Rhythm Kings in Sonoma Square, and Sweet G was relentless in asking me to dance. We danced about 5 songs in a row.
I was dripping with sweat, I must say we (she) stoled the show. She pulled me to dance, then after each song would say, “again Daddy, again!”
Why did she want to dance? I’m not exactly sure.
I can tell you it wasn’t for likes and views on Zuckerberg’s Platforms. It wasn’t for exercise or getting in shape. It wasn’t to overcome a fear of dancing in front of people. It wasn’t for meeting new people.
If I had to guess it was the pure joy of moving to music. Pure freedom and joy of moving your body. And grooving and connecting with her Daddy.
Here is a clip…
Dancing felt like pure PLAY to her, and that is something to aspire to.
Cheers,
Happy Dancing,
Garry
