(Clip) Special Performance Video from Lina’s Birthday Party
Enjoy falling to the level of your training/ Rhythm Challenge only 2 spots left for this Saturday
Hello Dancers,
Hope you’re enjoying falling to the level of your training.
One of my favorite quotes attributed to Archilochus 700BC goes…
“You don’t rise to the level of your expectations, you fall to the level of your training.”
Lina and I were both nervous to present this choreography at her birthday party. She told me she was really nervous. I said, “that’s good, I would be nervous if you weren’t nervous.”
I had the perfect buzz of nervousness. I felt ready to go complete the mission, which was already successful because we put in the training for months beforehand.
Wherever you are on your dance journey, there will be times you dance “under pressure.”
Nervousness is hard to quantify, but I would bet some beginning dancers feel more nervous dancing socially, than I did before this performance.
Someday you will feel pressure, and pressure causes funny things to happen. I have seen intermediate dancers suddenly become beginners under pressure.
James Clear says in Atomic Habits that, “You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.”
If you’re starting (or at any level), these are good questions to ask yourself. “What are my goals? To learn a particular style?
How/ What should I train? (so I don’t fall too far under pressure)
What systems can I put in place so that my training is consistent and effective? “Can I train in a way that is fun and doesn’t feel like a chore?” (I love to train.)
And here is a big one that I am trying to figure out, and will be asking frequently from now on so that I understand people better.
👉 Why do you dance?
Ponder.
Ok, No further ado, here is the special performance video.
This was sooo much fun to perform!! Hope you dug it.
Cheers,
Happy Dancing,
Garry
